Sedation Dentistry

Feel Comfortable, Confident, and in Control of Your Care

For many people, visiting the dentist isn’t just inconvenient. It’s stressful, overwhelming, or even frightening. If you’ve ever delayed care because of anxiety, past experiences, or fear of discomfort, you’re not alone. More importantly, you’re not without options.

At Chaffin Dental Care, we believe dental visits should feel manageable and even empowering. Sedation dentistry allows you to receive the care you need while feeling calm, relaxed, and fully supported. Whether your anxiety is mild or severe, Drs. Chris and Topher Chaffin take the time to understand your concerns and can tailor your experience so you feel safe every step of the way.

Sedation dentistry allows Chaffin Dental Care patients to get the dental care they need, stress free.

Helping to Manage Your Fear of the Dentist

Dental anxiety can come from many sources—fear of pain, past negative experiences, or simply feeling out of control in the chair. Whatever your reason, our goal is to meet you where you are and help you through your treatment.

Sedation dentistry can change the experience entirely. Instead of bracing yourself for discomfort or stress, you can relax knowing your visit will be calm, controlled, and designed around your comfort. Many patients are surprised by how easy their appointment feels and how quickly their confidence begins to return.

“Dr. Topher is very patient and accommodates my extreme anxiety when I’m there, as with all patients, they offer a warm pillow for my neck, a blanket if I choose, ChapStick for my lips and nitrous to settle my nerves. Best dentist office ever!!!!”

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry has numerous benefits, all of which help to remove barriers that keep you from getting the care you deserve.

With sedation dentistry, you can:

  • Feel deeply relaxed during your visit
  • Reduce or eliminate dental anxiety and fear
  • Have longer procedures feel shorter and more manageable
  • Complete multiple treatments in fewer appointments
  • Feel more in control of your dental health journey
  • Replace stress with confidence about future visits
  • Possibly sleep through your appointment

Sedation is not just for patients with anxiety. It is also ideal for those with busy schedules who want to maximize their time and complete more treatment in a single visit.

Sedation Options Tailored to You

Every patient is different, which is why we offer multiple levels of dental sedation based on your needs and comfort level.

Laughing Gas

A gentle option that helps you feel calm and at ease during your appointment. It works quickly and wears off fast, allowing you to return to your normal routine shortly after your visit. You can even drive yourself home after your appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Taken before your appointment, this option creates a deeper sense of relaxation. You’ll remain awake but feel calm, drowsy, and less aware of the procedure. Another person will need to bring you to and from the appointment.

IV Sedation

For patients with moderate to severe dental anxiety or those undergoing longer procedures, IV sedation provides the deepest level of relaxation available in a dental setting. Another person will need to bring you to and from the appointment.

Our doctors and team at Chaffin Dental Care are uniquely qualified to offer IV sedation, a technique not commonly available in many general dental practices. This advanced certification allows us to carefully monitor and adjust your level of sedation throughout your visit for optimal comfort and safety.

These options are safer than general anesthesia typically administered at hospitals. With these three dental sedation options, you will still have control of your body, including being able to continue breathing on your own throughout your appointment.

What Can I Expect with the Sedation Process?

Your experience begins with a conversation. We take time to understand your concerns, your health history, and your goals so we can recommend the right type of sedation for you.

On the day of your appointment:

  • You’ll be welcomed into a calm, supportive environment
  • Comfort amenities like blankets and neck pillows are available
  • Your sedation will be administered based on your personalized plan
  • Our team will monitor you closely throughout your visit

Many patients report remembering very little of their procedure and feeling surprised at how easy the experience was.

Is Sedation Dentistry Right for You?

Sedation dentistry can be life-changing if you:

  • Feel anxious or fearful about dental visits
  • Have avoided the dentist for years
  • Need multiple or complex procedures
  • Have a strong gag reflex or difficulty sitting still
  • Want a more relaxed, efficient dental experience

If any of these sound familiar, sedation dentistry may be the key to finally getting comfortable with your care.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sedation Dentistry

Will I be asleep?

Not necessarily. Most forms of sedation allow you to remain awake but deeply relaxed. With IV sedation, you may feel like you slept through the procedure, even though you were still responsive.

Can I drive home after my appointment?

If you receive oral conscious sedation or IV sedation, you will need someone to drive you home. For laughing gas, you can typically resume normal activities shortly after your visit.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Yes. Sedation dentistry is very safe when administered by trained professionals. Our team carefully reviews your medical history and monitors you throughout your appointment to ensure your comfort and safety at all times.
