Dental Implants
Why Dental Implants?
A person’s smile can convey a lot about them. Society often judges a person’s confidence, intelligence, and honesty based on the quality of their smile. Missing teeth are perceived negatively and may affect their self-esteem, confidence, speech, and ability to comfortably enjoy their favorite foods.
Do missing teeth hold you back from living life confidently?
Dental implants are a premium tooth replacement option that can help restore both your confidence and your ability to chew, speak, and smile comfortably again.
At Chaffin Dental Care in Spokane, WA, we can help you restore your smile with dental implants that look, feel, and function more naturally than any other type of tooth replacement.
Dental Implants: A Long-Term Solution to Replace Missing Teeth
Dental implants are near-permanent teeth replacements. They can often be used to support a single tooth, several teeth, or even an entire smile. Dental implants are considered superior to many other tooth replacement options because they most closely resemble natural teeth in both appearance and function.

Dental implants allow you to chew your food with confidence and enjoy a more stable and comfortable smile. Dental implants are also the only tooth replacement option that helps prevent the jawbone from shrinking or “melting away” after teeth are lost.
The tooth implant generally consists of two parts:
- A dental implant is a man-made tooth root
- A personalized restoration is attached on top of the implant. These may include a crown, bridge, or denture.
The bio-compatible implant is surgically placed into the jawbone and allowed to heal and integrate with the surrounding bone. Once healing is complete, a customized crown or restoration is attached to the implant. Every dental implant restoration is carefully designed to fit comfortably and blend naturally with your smile.
Complete Implant Treatment in One Office
One of the biggest advantages of choosing Chaffin Dental Care for implant dentistry is that we can complete the entire implant process right here in our office.
Many dental offices refer patients to outside specialists for different stages of implant treatment. At Chaffin Dental Care, we are able to diagnose, plan, place the implants, and design and place the final restoration all under one roof.
This allows for:
- Better continuity of care
- More personalized treatment
- Greater convenience
- Fewer outside referrals
- Improved communication throughout the process
Because our doctors also have extensive cosmetic dentistry experience, your final implant restoration is designed not only to function like a natural tooth, but to look as natural and beautiful as possible.
Advanced Technology for Precise Tooth Implant Placement
Successful implant dentistry requires careful planning and precision. At Chaffin Dental Care, we use advanced technology to help create predictable, long-lasting implant results.
CT Scan Technology
We use advanced 3D CT scanning technology to gain a complete understanding of your bone structure, jaw anatomy, and oral health before implant placement.
This detailed imaging allows us to:
- Determine the best placement for each implant
- Evaluate bone density and available bone support
- Improve accuracy and treatment planning
- Create safer, more predictable outcomes
Intraoral Scans
We also do digital scans inside the mouth and pair them with the CT scan to provide the highest possible accuracy in planning for the implant placement.
Surgical Guides
Using your CT scan information, we can create a custom 3D-printed surgical guide to help ensure each implant is placed exactly where it needs to be within the jawbone.
Precise placement is important not only for long-term function and stability, but also for achieving the best cosmetic result possible.
Understanding the Dental Implant Process
Every patient’s implant treatment is customized based on their oral health, bone structure, and smile goals. While treatment timelines can vary, the dental implant process generally follows these important steps.
Consultation and Records
Your implant journey begins with a consultation and detailed 3D CT and intraoral scans to determine the optimal location for placing the implant. We also take high-quality digital photographs from various angles for cosmetic planning. During this stage, our doctors evaluate your teeth, gums, jawbone, smile characteristics, and overall oral health to determine whether dental implants are the right option for you.
Preparing the Mouth for Implants
Some patients may require additional procedures before implants can be placed. Bone grafting, sinus lifts, or gum grafting may be recommended to help create a healthier and more stable foundation for long-term implant success.
Our highly trained doctors are also able to perform these preparatory procedures.
Our team will explain all of your options and help you understand what to expect before treatment begins.
Implant Placement
The dental implant itself is a small titanium post that acts as a man-made tooth root. During the procedure, the implant is carefully placed into the jawbone using advanced planning and precise surgical techniques.
For patients who feel anxious about treatment, sedation options including laughing gas, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation which are available to help make the experience more comfortable.
Healing and Integration
After the implant is placed, the surrounding bone gradually bonds to the implant through a natural process called osseointegration. This healing period is important because it creates a strong and stable foundation for the final restoration.
Chaffin Dental Care may also use Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) technology to help support healing, bone growth, and implant integration.
Final Restoration
Once healing is complete, a custom dental crown, bridge, or implant-supported denture is attached to the implant. Each restoration is designed to fit comfortably, function naturally, and blend beautifully with your smile.
One of the advantages of treatment at Chaffin Dental Care is that the entire implant process, from diagnosis and planning to implant placement and the final restoration, can be completed right here in our office.
Bone Grafting, Sinus Lifts, and Gum Grafting
Some patients may not initially have enough healthy bone or gum tissue to properly support dental implants. Fortunately, additional procedures can often help prepare the mouth for successful implant treatment.
Bone Grafting
Bone grafting helps rebuild areas of the jaw where bone loss has occurred due to missing teeth, trauma, or gum disease. This helps to increase bone volume and density to create a stronger foundation for dental implants.
Sinus Lifts
For implants placed in the upper back jaw, a sinus lift may be required to increase available bone height and improve implant support.
Gum Grafting
Healthy gum tissue is important for both the appearance and long-term health of dental implants. Gum grafting procedures may be used to restore gum tissue where needed around implant sites.
Faster Healing with PRF Technology
Chaffin Dental Care also uses Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) technology to support faster healing and improved implant integration.
PRF uses your body’s own blood platelets and fibrin, which have natural healing properties, to help encourage:
- Faster healing
- Bone growth
- Tissue regeneration
- Improved implant integration
This advanced approach helps support long-term implant success and recovery.
Implant-Supported Dentures
Unlike traditional, removable dentures, implant-supported dentures stay securely in place without sticky adhesives or pastes.
Imagine eating what you want to eat without worrying about your teeth. And you can talk, laugh, and sing naturally and confidently with implant-supported dentures.
There are two types of implant-supported dentures: Removable and Fixed
Removable Dentures
As few as two dental implants can drastically improve the stability of a denture and help reduce slipping, movement, and discomfort. The dentures are attached to the implants with special snap-like attachments that help keep the dentures in place. These can be removed at home for easier cleaning.
Fixed Dentures
Fixed dentures are most like natural teeth. Based on the patient’s situation, we will recommend a certain number of implants needed to secure the dentures.
Because the number of implants can vary from patient to patient, this type of implant denture is called “All-on-X”, meaning an entire arch of false teeth is secured to X number of implants, where X could be 4, 5, or 6 implants, for example.
These are also sometimes referred to as “permanent dentures” as they can only be removed by the dentist, as needed, for regular cleanings or maintenance.
Say goodbye to floating dentures and enjoy improved comfort, stability, and confidence.
Sedation Dentistry for Comfortable Implant Treatment
At Chaffin Dental Care, we understand that some patients feel anxious about dental work or lengthy procedures. For your comfort, we offer several sedation dentistry options during implant treatment, including:
- Laughing gas
- Oral conscious sedation
- IV sedation
Sedation can help patients feel more relaxed and comfortable during treatment and can also make it easier to complete multiple procedures during the same appointment.
Our office is uniquely qualified to provide IV sedation, which is a service not commonly offered at many general dental practices.

Tooth Replacement Options
If you are missing teeth, several treatment options may be available depending on your needs and goals:
Dental Implants
Dental implants provide the most natural feel and function while helping preserve jawbone health.
Bridges
Traditional dental bridges replace missing teeth but do not help prevent bone loss beneath the missing tooth. They also require grinding down the neighboring teeth for attachment.
Traditional Dentures
Full or partial dentures are removable and may restore appearance and function, but these plates can sometimes shift or become less stable over time. Furthermore, as the jawbone degenerates without the stimulation of real or artificial tooth roots, dentures will no longer fit as they once did and need to be replaced.
Leaving Missing Teeth Untreated
Choosing the option of not replacing missing teeth can contribute to shifting, bone loss, bite problems, and changes in facial appearance.
